My favorite thing about starting Love From Ruby is seeing how good people are. People are amazing. People are giving of their time, talents, and money. It is so heartwarming to me. I sincerely think the community of sewing and quilting has some of the most kind and generous people around.
A few weeks ago I received an email from Jane. I knew about her from following The Cottage Mama for years–Jane is Lindsay’s mom. Let me tell you, I love these two ladies. They are the cream of the crop! After receiving Jane’s email letting me know she had a quilt to donate for this project (find out more HERE), I waited in anticipation for this beauty to arrive. It’s perfect.
I love the thought and detail Jane put into this quilt. I love the zig-zags on the heart representing a stitched and repaired heart. I love the rectangles that look like a zipper. When you have open heart surgery, they say you belong to the Zipper Club because of the scar on your chest. That along with how much easier access you’d have if they had a zipper rather than doing what they need to to access the heart of course.
Jane used a quilt by the Missouri Star Quilt Company called the Zipper Quilt. In Jane’s own words, she wrote, “I named this the Heart Zipper Quilt as the four columns represent a zipper, not unlike the zipper-like scar on the chests of these little heart warriors after open heart surgery. The small heart appliqués that I added to the pattern represent the upward climb and steps for these babies to their big, healthy and strong hearts at the top!”
Here’s a close-up of the words (coloring changed a bit so I could contrast the words enough to show up in the picture–easy to read on the quilt but harder in the pics). It says: “Covers you in hope and Prayers as your sweet little heart grows to be big and strong!” Again, the time she put into the details brings a smile to my face.
You can see more pictures of this quilt and read what else Jane has to say about the quilt over on The Cottage Mama on THIS post. It brings tears to my eyes reading the post and receiving donations. These families will be so thankful. Any little bit of comfort goes a long way. I know this first-hand and I’m sure many of you have been recipients of gifts that have touched your hearts. Thank you Jane and Lindsay for your help getting the word out for Love From Ruby! I appreciate it more than you know!
